Dean Prochaska joined the National Institute of Standards and Technology at the end of April 2009 and is serving as the Deputy Director of the Smart Grid Program and National Coordinator for Smart Grid Conformance. Prior to working at NIST, Dean worked in the Telecommunications Industry for over 20 years. In his most recent position in the Telecom Industry he served as the Director of Global Technology Standards for Sprint’s wireless and wire line business. In this role his department was instrumental in the technology direction for Sprint. His department also had responsibility for driving requirements into technology standards to support Sprint’s network and product requirements. Dean also served on multiple standards boards including the WiMAX Forum, Open Mobile Alliance and also the CDMA Development Group Executive Board. Prior to Dean’s Standards position he also held executive positions in the Sprint Engineering and Operations division where he was responsible for directing technical groups responsible for the original design, build out, and operation of multiple major Sprint wireless systems. His tenure in the wireless industry also includes previous positions in Business Development.
