AMI Consumer Backlash – Perceptions and Realities

Event Over

In the Engineer’s mind, smart meters are a big step forward; they provide utilities greater visibility into energy consumption patterns, and they allow consumers to play a direct role in managing usage and conserving energy. As AMI deployments unfold, utilities are experiencing a different reality, and it is not safe to assume that smart meters are welcome in the home. Consumer buy-in is critical for smart grid to succeed, and utilities need to be better at communicating and educating the market about what AMI is all about. There are a number of hot button issues to address, such as the impact of AMI on rising energy bills, potential health risks from radio waves, and personal privacy. If you’re wondering what all the fuss is about, you won’t want to miss this session.

Jon Arnold I just did a shout-out on my blog about our session, and to get you in the mood, I cited an article I recently wrote, titled "New Urban Myth? Are Smart Meters Bad for Us?" Enjoy, and please share!http://jonarnold-analyst.blogspot.com/2011/05/connectivity-week-next-week-my-smart.html
Jon Arnold Session update - Prof. Gadh has moved from this panel to the V2G session on Tuesday - don't miss it! He's a great speaker. In his place, we've just added John Cooper from Ecomergence. John is a terrific addition, and has a lot of experience in this space. Welcome, John!
Jon Arnold I hope you'll join us for this session at the end of CW. It's a pivotal smart grid topic, and with this group of speakers, you will definitely learn some new things.
