HEMS in 2011
Now that convergence and robust, secure home wireless networks are a mainstream reality, energy home energy management solutions are an emerging opportunity. To accelerate market development, Intel is working with the industry to deliver new silicon designs that bring intelligence to home electronics.
In the US there is a 13 percent gap between electrical energy supply and demand. The only way to close the gap is through conservation in homes and businesses, not building more power plants. Between 2011 and 2012, with the government mandates and incentives, there will be enough consumer motivation and mainstream solutions to really accelerate the market.
In 2011 Intel will begin delivering home energy management solutions based on the Intel ® Atom™ processor. These systems will read temperatures, moisture levels and weather conditions and will include smart plugs, which are used to manage appliances and CE products and monitoring and communication services for the collection, diagnosis and dissemination of information related to power consumption.
